Zero Emission and Low Carbon Transit Bus Workshop

4/21/2010 8:00:00 AM

Zero Emission and Low Carbon Transit Buses:  State of      Technologies and Fuels and Current Challenges

CALSTART, with sponsorship from Southern California Gas Company, will host a one-day workshop focused on the various options to move towards zero criteria and ultra low carbon emissions. A variety of best in class options are being explored, many of which would use renewable fuels  and may allow the transit industry to use some  of their present Infrastructure investments as well as moving towards zero emission. These options include biomethane in conjunction with natural gas internal combustion engines, biomethane in conjunction with natural gas hybrids, blended hydrogen and renewable hydrogen blended with natural gas, renewable biomethane produced hydrogen in conjunction with fuel cell buses and battery electric buses and rapid refueling.

Given California’s regulations including AB 32 and the new proposals the state is considering for the Transit Bus Rule, this workshop is timely for potential fleet operators, bus makers, regulators, and propulsion system and subsystem providers. You will get a first hand look at the timeline for fuel cell buses and their projections for price reductions and full commercialization, a look at some new exciting battery electric bus technology being field tested by Foothill Transit, and some truly new and very cost effective options to enhance the use of natural gas and natural gas refueling and electric recharging.
